The central sculpture is inspired by traditional figures from the Erzgebirge region, that are woven into the cultural consciousness of the people. Merging it into an androgynous abstract figurine, I aimed to incorporate those two aspects alive in everyone into one symbol: hardworking bravery and inspiring lightheartedness.
In 2025 – the Chemnitz European Capital of Culture year – the institution of Kulturkirche Chemnitz represents all Christian Faiths and coordinates activities connected to the church communities in the city. The project is a continuation and development of the project Leuchte mal hier her, taking place in early 2023 in Leipzig. The project has two phases: indoors in May in the beautiful church St. Markus in Chemnitz, outdoors in August in the city center during the Kulturkirchenfestival.
Phase 1: During four days, about 50 humans aged 3 to 80 yrs co-created over 100 unique artworks and gave the Angel-Miner sculpture back their wings. While painting, they were invited to ponder about the question, what might elevate themselves in their personal lifes and if that source already tapped into sufficiently. The imagery created consisted of feathers, rainbows, candles, churches, all-seeing-eyes and abstract motives. On many images, blessings, poems or psalms were put on paper.
