These paintings wanted to be created during darkest nights in 2024 and 2025 while the temperature in my workshop had a cozy 10°C. Guess the cold helped me to focus. The works are yet another personal approach on exploring symbolism in mysticism: merging scripture, mandala and geometry.
The series Elemente (elements) so far is comprised of four separate works. Each work is done a square canvas with width of 135 cm. On a background in light color shading, a geometrical abstract figure in corresponding color is placed centrally. While these principles apply for all works, geometrical shape, color and composition of the shape vary with each painting.
Curiously, the combination of shape and color seems to link a work into a cultural context: the yellow square could be interpreted as early Christian labyrinth, the red circle creates more of a ancient East-Asian seal, the blue octagon having a muslim calligraphic vibe and the umbra ring brings up memories of long gone Latin-American civilizations.
